Adams and Reese attorney Laurie Young, who serves as a board member for the Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans, was recognized, along with JA Board members, at halftime of the New Orleans Pelicans’ basketball game on March 14th for the honoring of “The Final Four” schools in the “Junior Idea” entrepreneurship program, presented by Idea Village and JAGNO. Young served as a co-chair for “Junior Idea.”
New Orleans area high schools Archbishop Chapelle, Warren Easton, Mount Carmel and Dominican qualified for The Final Four as just like the closing event at New Orleans Entrepreneurs Week, where the big guys pitch “The Big Idea,” the “Junior Idea” students pitched their ideas to a panel of Judges at the start of NOEW. The Judges then selected winners. Students are prepared for this venture through Junior Achievement’s Be Entrepreneurial (JA BE) curriculum: a hands-on, experiential learning program taught by business volunteers and teachers, resulting in a completed and practical business plan. Submitted business ideas incorporated STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) concepts, skills and careers.
Winners earned awards, prizes, and unique opportunities for internships and more for themselves and their school. The goal is to promote the “next generation of entrepreneurs” and to ensure that New Orleans remains “the coolest startup city in America.”
At Adams and Reese, Young is a Partner in the Litigation Group focusing her practice on the litigation of maritime and energy, labor and employment, and general litigation matters. Young was selected a 2013 Loyola Alumni “Women in Law” Honoree, which recognized female alumnae who have demonstrated professional achievement in the practice of law as well as a strong involvement in the community. She was also named among the 2012 "Women of the Year" by New Orleans CityBusiness.
