While the calendar has yet to roll from November into December, members of the Adams and Reese New Orleans office were getting into the spirit of the season as attorneys and staff took part in the eighth annual Holiday Card Stuffing and Luncheon Party for St. Andrew’s Village on Tuesday afternoon in the firm’s One Shell Square office.

The Adams and Reese participants assisted the young adults and families of St. Andrew’s Village by stuffing, labeling and affixing postage to 1,800 holiday cards for mailing to their many supporters. The event represents just one of the events of the long-time partnership between Adams and Reese and St. Andrew’s Village as part of the law firm’s employee volunteer program, HUGS (Hope, Understanding, Giving and Support).

During the event, New Orleans office Partner, Pro Bono Paladin and HUGS founder Mark C. Surprenant addressed the group on hand about the history between Adams and Reese St. Andrew’s Village. Also speaking to the participants was the Hon. Jay C. Zainey – U.S. District Judge of the United State District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana – as the St. Andrew’s Village co-founder spoke about the future of the organization and touched on some yet-to-be announced expansion of the Abita Springs-based facility.

Organized by a family members and other interested members of the community for adults with developmental disabilities, St. Andrew’s Village is a mixed-use community where adults with developmental disabilities can live alongside their non-disabled peers. Its mission is to provide a loving, secure community where adults with all degrees of developmental disabilities can live, work, worship and socialize throughout their lifelong journey.

St. Andrew’s Village also aims to foster individual independence and self-determination, offers its residents meaningful employment with dignity and purpose, and to attract and support a devoted group of caring staff, volunteers and friends whose hearts and minds are fully committed to the family mission.
