Chattanooga is nicknamed the "Scenic City"

Known for its beautiful ridges, valleys, mountains and outdoor tourist attractions that have earned the city national recognition for the renaissance of its beautiful downtown and redevelopment of its riverfront. Located in southeastern Tennessee on Chickamauga Lake and Nickajack Lake and at the junction of four major state highways.

According to Forbes magazine, Chattanooga is ranked 8th out of the Nation's 100 Largest Metro Areas for the best "Bang for your Buck." And it has been named by Lonely Planet as the "Best in the U.S." and "10 U.S. destinations you need to see in 2018.”

The city has its own typeface, Chatype, which was launched in August 2012.

According to the Nooga.com website, Chattanooga is the first American city to have its own custom-made typeface – and also the first time a crowd-funded custom-made typeface has been used for any municipality in the world.

Vibrant and Rising Economy

The city's economy is a diversified and growing mix of start-ups and established manufacturing and service industries. Numerous companies have major manufacturing facilities here, with Volkswagen Group of America opening its $1 billion production facility in 2011. It now serves as the group's North American manufacturing headquarters.

It’s Great Fun to be Outdoors

With access to the Smoky Mountains, parts of the Appalachian Mountains and the Tennessee River, tourists who love the outdoors can enjoy mountain climbing, hang-gliding, bass fishing and caving expeditions. There is also an extensive greenway system, which includes five miles of constructed river-walks through the historic art district and several parks.

Other attractions include the Tennessee Aquarium, Lookout Mountain, Civil War battlefield sites, the African American Museum, Appalachian Trail, Riverbend Festival and the Southern Writers Conference. Chattanooga is also the home of NCAA Division I-AA national football championships and hosts the national softball championships every year.

Unofficial Chattanooga nicknames include River City, Chatt, Nooga, Chattown and Gig City, referencing Chattanooga's claims that it has the fastest internet service in the Western Hemisphere.
