Adams and Reese attorney Kirby D. Shealy, III, was recognized among the leaders in his field as the Columbia office partner was named a 2018 Leadership in Law winner as announced by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly.

The 30-member class will be honored at the 10th Annual Leadership in Law awards event on March 23, 2018, at the Francis Marion Hotel in historic downtown Charleston, S.C. The event will recognize attorneys from across the Palmetto State who have achieved success in their law practice, made contributions to society and had an impact on the legal profession. A top ‘Lawyer of the Year’ award will be selected out of the 2017 class of honorees and revealed the night of the event.

A partner with Adams and Reese in 2013, Shealy has extensive jury trial and appellate experience in personal injury actions and commercial contract disputes. In these contexts, he has handled copyright and trademark infringement claims, construction defect suits, products liability claims, title defects and catastrophic injury and death claims against trucking, manufacturing and other commercial enterprises.

Shealy is an active member of several professional organizations, including the South Carolina chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, of which he is the treasurer. He is a past-president of the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court, an organization of lawyers and judges whose mission is to promote the highest standards of civility, professionalism and competency in the legal profession. He also serves as the Chair of the South Carolina Supreme Court’s Committee on Character and Fitness, which is charged with determining the suitability of applicants to the South Carolina Bar.

In the community, Shealy is currently the Secretary of Thompson Child and Family Focus. He also serves as a trustee of Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, is the chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina and is the Scoutmaster of Troop 8 of the Indian Waters Council, BSA.
