Through the law firm’s employee volunteer program - HUGS (Hope, Understanding, Giving, and Support), the staff of the Adams and Reese Sarasota office will spend Saturday, April 30th, volunteering to renovate the Abacus Preschool outside playground.
Abacus, licensed for 32 children, is a privately-owned child care center in Sarasota serving children from infants to five-year-olds.
The Adams and Reese staff will begin volunteer work at 9 a.m. and perform general clean-up, create an infant area with a rubber surface and swing/climber; repaint metal equipment; remove damaged equipment and toys; create a butterfly garden and vegetable garden; provide storage bins for toys; provide a lock for their gate; and replace hula hoops and several other toys at the facility. Adams and Reese thanks local green nursery company Troy’s Tropics in Sarasota for donating the plants to the butterfly garden.
The renovation efforts were led by Adams and Reese attorney Laura Bauman, who is a board member for the Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota County, responsible for administering local school readiness and voluntary pre-kindergarten programs. The Coalition places children with special needs (whether economic or otherwise) into safe learning environments, and also provides a referral source for all parents in the county who are in search of high quality child care.
“The Coalition identified Abacus Preschool as one of the child care facilities in need of renovations, and at Adams and Reese, we are always looking for organizations and facilities within our communities to lend a hand to and help make a difference,” said Bauman. “This is going to be a fun activity for all of our employees, we will be able to see an immediate impact on the lives of some of our community's children.”
At Adams and Reese, the employee volunteer program, also known as HUGS (Hope, Understanding, Giving, and Support), was founded in 1988 and has since devoted financial resources and thousands of volunteer hours to offer assistance to those in need. Every year throughout Adams and Reese’s 13 offices in its regional footprint, employees donate time and money to more than 100 community organizations in need.
