Elizabeth “Liz” Roussel joined Adams and Reese in 2002 and focuses her practice in the areas of labor and employment litigation, commercial litigation and director and officer liability claims litigation. Liz has represented a wide variety of clients including financial institutions, private Fortune 500 companies, public entities, nonprofit corporations, state agencies, private universities, public trusts and charter schools.
In her labor and employment practice, Liz has defended employers in administrative proceedings before the EEOC and the Louisiana Department of Labor. Liz has also served as counsel for corporate directors and officers in defending derivative suits alleging mismanagement, fraud and conversion. Additionally, she has litigated construction and real estate disputes, including expropriations and public works contract actions.
Her other significant contributions include:
- Advising and representing employers in Louisiana’s state and federal courts on a wide range of employment matters including claims brought pursuant to Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, Sections 1981 and 1983 of the United States Code and Louisiana’s anti-discrimination and whistleblower statutes.
- Handling claims for injunctive relief and representing clients in jury trials, bench trials and preliminary injunction hearings.
- Litigating claims involving breach of non-competition and non-solicitation provisions in employment contracts. Such cases also typically include pursuing and/or defending against claims involving breach of fiduciary duty, unfair trade practices, tortious interference with contract and business relations, fraud, conversion and misappropriation of trade secrets and confidential information.
- Providing proactive advice, counseling, and training to employers regarding policies, procedures and statutory compliance.
Liz is currently the Chair of the board of directors for the Children’s Bureau of New Orleans, a nonprofit United Way partner agency that provides mental health, counseling and other services to children and families.
When Liz isn’t practicing law, she enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her children and family.
