Haverly MacArthur

Intellectual Property

Haverly MacArthur joined Adams and Reese in 2005 and is a Partner in the firm’s Special Business Services Group. Haverly’s practice focuses on the domestic and international clearance, acquisition, management, licensing, and enforcement of intellectual property, with an emphasis on trademarks, copyrights, and domain names. Haverly works with a wide variety of clients, including multi-national corporations, educational institutions, pharmaceutical companies, musical artists, and numerous foreign entities.

Her significant experience includes:

  • Assisting clients in the selection and clearance of global brands, including the development of portfolios and protection strategies.
  • Extensive experience in protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights in emerging markets.
  • The prosecution of trademark applications before the United States Trademark Office.
  • Managing the international trademark portfolio of the world’s leading provider of foreign language instruction services.
  • Protecting intellectual property rights, including in trademark infringement proceedings, opposition and cancellation proceedings, domain name disputes, and anti-cybersquatting actions.
  • Identifying, investigating, and enforcing rights against trademark and copyright infringers on the Internet.
  • Carrying out intellectual property due diligence in corporate transactions, securities and mergers, and acquisitions.
  • Representing clients in intellectual property transactional matters such as intellectual property audits, licensing, and transfers.

Haverly graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee in 1999 as top graduating senior in the College of Arts and Sciences and received her J.D. from University of Texas School of Law in 2004.

Before attending law school, Haverly lived in Germany for two years, for one year as a student at the University of Stuttgart and then for an additional year teaching English to adults at various German companies.

In her free time, Haverly enjoys exercising, reading, and spending time with her husband and their three children.
