Adams and Reese Partner Ann Huckstep has been selected among Birmingham Business Journal’s “Who’s Who in Health Care” for 2009. This listing is an elite group of health care professionals from physicians to hospital administrators to health care lawyers.
Huckstep was featured in the publication’s February 13th issue.
Huckstep is an accomplished health care attorney in Adams and Reese’s Special Business Services practice group, is a member of the Health Care Team, and served as chairwoman of the firm’s Executive Committee from 2007-2008. For more than 25 years, Huckstep has guided companies in cutting-edge issues in health care and corporate law. Hospitals, medical service companies, physicians, and other health care providers rely on her to provide substantive advice on a broad range of legal issues, including regulatory compliance, certificate of need, accreditation, business transactions, labor matters, antitrust issues, corporate matters, governance issues, strategic planning and more.
She has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Health Care Law) since 2005. Huckstep has also been awarded such honors as Birmingham Business Journal's "Businesswoman of the Year" Award for 2007, the Birmingham Bar Association's "Nina Miglionico: Paving the Way" Leadership Award in 2007, and was named among the Birmingham Business Journal's "Top 10 Businesswomen" for 2005.
Huckstep served as lead counsel for the largest hospital system in the State in the sale of its not-for-profit flagship hospital to a major, publicly traded hospital company. She then helped guide the healthcare system through the tax-exempt, antitrust and regulatory issues in connection with a whole hospital joint venture between the two health care systems for the ultimate ownership and operation of the hospital.
Huckstep also helped a publicly traded hospital company obtain an Alabama State Health Plan Adjustment for a new hospital in Madison, Alabama. This was a high-profile, hotly-contested case in a certificate of need state in which no new hospital adjustment had been approved in many years.
Huckstep also is a member of the firm’s Corporate, Securities, Mergers and Acquisitions Practice Team and its Economic Development Practice Team.
