Joe Goodman joined Adams and Reese in 2005, following the firm's expansion into Nashville. As a Partner and member of the Tax team, Joe has provided multidisciplinary, holistic professional services to high net worth families and family-owned businesses for more than 30 years. In the areas of financial, tax, investment, estate and business planning, he facilitates the communication and decision-making process for families dealing with issues that overlap the family system and the business system.

During his career, Joe has developed numerous estate plans for wealthy families. He has provided consultation services to more than 250 family-owned businesses in comprehensive successorship and estate planning matters.

Joe is a Certified Public Accountant and a Professional Financial Specialist. He also holds a Certificate in Family Advising with Fellow Status from the Family Firm Institute and is listed in Best Lawyers® - Tax Law, Trusts and Estates. Joe has been selected among the “Nation’s Top 100 Attorneys” by Worth Magazine for four consecutive years.

His other significant contributions include:

  • Expanding the firm’s high net worth estate planning and family business practice.
  • Being nationally known in this area of law and family business circles.
  • Challenging the profession of law to think outside of the box with regard to family advising.
  • Co-authoring Business Succession Planning and Beyond: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Representing the Family-Owned Business published by the American Bar Association.
  • Authoring Rich Widows Live Forever, an entertaining and informative book dealing with wealth, old age and families.

Joe frequently lectures and has spoken to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Association, Tennessee Federal Tax Institute, Alabama Federal Tax Institute, Million Dollar Round Table annual meeting, numerous estate planning councils as well as various national trade associations, annual conventions and civic, professional, charitable and college-sponsored programs.

Joe is a past chair of the Tax, Probate & Trust Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association. He also is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Council, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Family Firm Institute Program Chair - 2005, Attorneys for Family-Held Enterprises and Family Business Magazine Editorial Board. He has authored numerous articles in his field.
