Joel Galanter joined Adams and Reese in 1998 and is a Partner in the Litigation Group. Joel exclusively practices in litigation with a strong focus on intellectual property and business disputes. He has led the firm’s Intellectual Property litigation practice area for a number of years.
Joel has served as lead counsel to numerous companies in trademark, copyright, false advertising, patent, and trade secret lawsuits as well as general business disputes in cases across the United States. He has handled cases for his clients in California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Oklahoma, Alabama, Louisiana, Washington, DC, as well as in each of the three Federal Judicial Districts in his home state of Tennessee.
In his practice, Joel has served a diverse group of clients in cases before federal and state courts, regulatory agencies and alternative dispute tribunals. He has also represented clients in numerous cases involving contract and shareholder disputes, employment and whistleblower disputes, securities fraud, unfair competition, breach of fiduciary duties, ERISA claims and commercial leases.
His other significant contributions include:
- Representing companies in a variety of industries, including power plants, drug testing, software, oil and gas, religious organizations, manufacturing, automotive, footwear, apparel, telecommunications, pesticides and banking, in addition to musical artists, songwriters, publishers and trade groups.
- Handling numerous Internet domain name and website disputes, including many with important First Amendment issues and defenses.
Prosecution of rights of publicity and name and likeness violations of an internationally renowned supermodel in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.
Representing significant religious organizations and a large music industry trade association in federal court actions concerning claims of trademark ownership and infringement.
- Serving on the Ethics and Professionalism Committee for the Nashville Bar Association and as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals for the City of Belle Meade.
Joel admires and is an avid reader of books on Abraham Lincoln. He also admires his late grandmother Claire Barnett. Through the age of 99, Claire traveled annually from her home in London, England to visit her family across the United States. She had a natural wit and passion for life and learning that never faded.
