Justine M. Tate joined Adams and Reese in 2016 as an Associate in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group in the Columbia office.

Most recently, Justine served as litigation counsel for the South Carolina Department of Revenue. In this role, she handled all aspects of litigation for tax-related and alcohol-licensing matters, including drafting and issuing agency determinations and representing the Department before the South Carolina Administrative Law Court.

Among her significant experience and accomplishments, Justine:

  • Practiced at a leading personal injury firm in Columbia, handling all aspects of the Social Security Disability hearing process on behalf of her clients at the South Carolina Office of Disability Adjudication and Review.
  • Served as a paralegal for upscale fitness club chain Equinox, Inc. in New York City, providing primary paralegal support to Equinox’s general counsel for all of its domestic club locations and subsidiaries, including SoulCycle.
  • Served as chief paralegal for global auction house Sotheby’s, Inc. in New York City, providing primary legal support to corporate attorneys operating in the general counsel’s office.
  • Interned at The White House Office of Media Affairs in Washington, DC In this role, she handled regional media relations, press coverage tracking, and coordination of Presidential events throughout the county.

In the legal community, Justine is a former Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Government, Military and Public Sector Lawyers Committee. She participates in the Lawyers 4 Vets Legal Clinic at the Dorn VA Center, S.C. Bar Ask-A-Lawyer Pro-Bono Program, My Will Project Clinic through University of South Carolina Law School and Project HELP (Homeless Experience Legal Protection) Clinic. She is currently serving as an Ambassador for the S.C. Bar Foundation and is a member of the S.C. Bar Leadership Academy Class of 2018.

In the local community, Justine served as Co-Director of The Hand Up Campaign, helping spearhead fundraising and marketing initiatives for Hannah House, a transitional shelter for women in downtown Columbia. She also serves on the board of Children’s Chance of South Carolina, which provides non-medical financial assistance to families who have children with pediatric cancer and Growing Home Southeast, which provides at-risk youth and families with community and foster care services. She is currently a member of the Leadership Columbia Class of 2018, a program of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce.

In her spare time, Justine enjoys travelling, reading, exercising and spending time with her family, friends and husband, David.
