Biography of Norman Stein

Norman Stein is the Douglas Arant Professor of Law at the University of Alabama School of Law, where he teaches tax and employee benefits. He is a member of the Department of Labor's ERISA Advisory Council; a fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, the National Academy of Social Insurance, and the Employee Benefits Research Institute; a member of the Advisory Board of the BNA Pension and Benefits Reporter; and a past chair of the Association of American Law School's Section on Employee Benefits. Professor Stein received his B.A. in 1973 from New College in Sarasota, Florida, and his J.D. in 1978 from Duke University, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. From 1980 to 1981, he was a law clerk fro the Honorable Gerald Bard Tjoflat of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He has written numerous articles and books on employee benefits and is a frequent speaker on employee benefits at legal and academic conferences.
