6/12/2008 Adams and Reese Celebrates 20 Years of Community Service
Adams and Reese attorneys and staff celebrated 20 years of community service on Wednesday, June 12, 2008 with the anniversary of its corporate philanthropy program HUGS. Appropriately named to represent the Hope, Understanding, Giving and Support it encourages, the program was founded in June 1988 to promote social responsibility among attorneys and staff at the firm. Through HUGS, thousands of volunteer hours accompanied by hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated to charities, schools and nonprofit organizations providing services to those in need. Nearly 100 organizations have benefited from the HUGS program thanks to volunteers from Adams and Reese’s 10 offices in five states and Washington, D.C.
6/12/2008 LSBA to Honor Surprenant with Leah Hipple McKay Memorial Award
Mark C. Surprenant, Senior Partner in Charge of Adams and Reese’s New Orleans office, will be honored by the Louisiana State Bar Association on June 12, 2008, when he receives the Leah Hipple McKay Memorial Award for Outstanding Volunteerism. As the premier award in the Crystal Gavel Awards program, the McKay Memorial Award is presented annually to the Louisiana lawyer who has made significant long-term volunteer contributions to his state and local community.
6/12/2008 LSBA to Honor Ruffin with President's Award at Annual Convention
Maurice C. Ruffin, an associate with the New Orleans office of Adams and Reese, has been selected to receive the Louisiana State Bar Association’s President's Award for 2007-2008. Mr. Ruffin was selected for this honor because of his many contributions to the community and profession, particularly his work with diversity issues and his efforts to establish a "Choose Law" program in Louisiana Schools.
5/20/2008 Firm's Internet Law Expert Lydia Jones to Teach CLE Course for Nashville Bar

The seminar, titled “E-Commerce and Internet Law: Current Trends and Assessing New Liability Risks” will be held on June 26th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Tennessee State University on the Avon Williams Campus in Room 353.

5/20/2008 Adams and Reese Receives Statewide Honor for Pro Bono Service
The Louisiana State Bar Association honored Adams and Reese as the recipient of its 2008 "Friend of Pro Bono" Award. This esteemed annual award is given to only one law firm, individual attorney or organization that has made a major contribution to the enhancement and promotion of pro bono legal services to the poor. The firm was honored at an awards presentation that took place at the Louisiana Supreme Court Building in New Orleans on May 20, 2008.
5/20/2008 Adams and Reese Hosts Reception To Announce Charter of Maritime Academy
At a reception hosted by Adams and Reese on Tuesday, May 20, the Foundation for the Advancement of Maritime Education (FAME) will formally announce its efforts to apply for a Type II charter to open a maritime charter high school. The keynote speaker at the reception will be Louisiana Superintendent of Schools Paul Pastorek, who is expected to discuss the importance of the role of industry in education.
5/16/2008 Students Experience Law Firm Life Thanks to Adams and Reese and the Junior League of New Orleans
On Friday, May 16th, Adams and Reese will host 8th graders from Green Charter School for an office visit and tour in conjunction with the Junior League of New Orleans’ “Power Ties” program. In addition to witnessing the day-to-day operations of a law firm, students will have the opportunity to learn about the practice of law and the many jobs that are available within a law office. The visit was coordinated by Adams and Reese Partner Ann Koppel who serves as “Power Ties” Co-Chair.

The Memphis World Trade Club with the law firm of Adams and Reese LLP hosted the 2nd annual Memphis Multi Modal Conference, “Fueling Your Future.”  The multi modal educational and networking conference encouraged the exchange of ideas, shared trends among intermodal segments of the economy, and built on the continued growth of Memphis as the “Intermodal Gateway” to the world. Leading intermodal and international experts joined Federal, State and local officials with Fortune 500 business leaders at The Peabody Hotel in Memphis on March 19th and 20th. Louisiana State University’s Brooks A. Keel, Ph.D. and Peter J. Kelleher, Ph.D. will be honored at a welcome reception sponsored by the law firm of Adams and Reese on Tuesday, April 17 at the Shaw Center in Baton Rouge. Keel is the newly appointed Vice Chancellor for the Office of Research and Economic Development and Kelleher is the university’s new Associate Vice Chancellor for Intellectual Property Commercialization and Development.

The event took place at Bienville Square on Saturday March 3, 2007, and raised money for local educational programs that teach the importance of early detection and prevention; patient services such as transportation, prosthetics, counseling and emergency financial aid; and lifesaving research.

11/27/2006 Adams and Reese Welcomed National Transportation Officials
Adams and Reese LLP and the Memphis Regional Chamber co-hosted a reception for U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Mary Peters, and five other commissioners responsible for reporting on the country’s future surface transportation needs to Congress next year. The National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission will conduct hearings and technical tours in Memphis and New York City on November 15 and 16.

Attorneys and staff of the New Orleans office collected seven overflowing boxes of notebooks, crayons, backpacks and paper during an office-wide school supply drive benefiting Catholic Charities on Monday, August 15, 2005.  In addition to the supplies, nearly $1,000 was made in donations.

For the second consecutive year, Adams and Reese and JPF Music’s Fifteen Minutes Show will sponsor a fundraiser benefiting Project Prodigy, a four-week summer music camp for New Orleans public elementary school students.  The event will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2005 in the Parish Room at the House of Blues.

Nearly 100 Adams and Reese attorneys and staff in the New Orleans office joined together to celebrate HUGS seventeenth birthday on June 23, 2005. HUGS, appropriately named to represent the Hope, Understanding, Giving and Support it encourages, was founded in June 1988 to promote social responsibility among members of the firm. This year, the firm used the special occasion to not only raise awareness and heighten participation in the program, but to support prostate cancer awareness and treatment.

6/2/2005 Adams and Reese Awards Scholarships to Inner-City Youths
Adams and Reese awarded four talented young students with scholarships to the My House Center for Learning summer school program. The students were selected by nearly 50 attorneys and staff at a breakfast and art show on Thursday, June 2, at the firm’s New Orleans office.
4/29/2005 Ten New Orleans Public School Students Attend Zurich Classic As Guests of Adams and Reese
Ten students from the Urban League Street Academy attended the Zurich Classic on Thursday, April 28, 2005, as guests of Adams and Reese and the Fore!Kids Foundation. Before leaving for the tourney, attorneys John Duck and Gary Armstead welcomed the students at the office for breakfast, while attorney Robert Vosbein, Jr., gave students a “crash course” on the rules of the game, facts about the players and the course, as well as tournament protocol.
4/27/2005 Kelly To Address Louisiana Technology Council On Legal Issues On The Web
William J. Kelly III, a partner in the New Orleans office, will present a 90-minute tour of the legal issues surrounding web sites, web hosting, and e-commerce on Wednesday, April 27, 2005. 4/8/2005 New Orleans Public School Students Witness Government at Work
Students from the Urban League Street Academy witnessed local government in action on a field trip to City Hall on April 7, 2005. The field trip was coordinated by attorneys John Duck and Gary Armstead, and Kenya Smith, Executive Counsel to Mayor C. Ray Nagin. Smith practiced with Adams and Reese until joining the Mayor’s office in 2003.

Adams and Reese participated in the Red Beans and Rice Cook-Off to benefit Stewpot Community Services in Jackson. The firm was among 30 sponsoring companies and organizations that provided more than 300 gallons of red beans and rice judged in the Cook-Off.

A little wet, a little tired, the members of the Birmingham office of Adams and Reese / Lange Simpson LLP crossed the finish line in the 2004 Susan G. Komen  “Race for the Cure” on October 9, 2004.  The rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the twenty team members who volunteered with deep devotion to “Race for the Cure” and with a particular commitment to Lou Cox, the firm’s receptionist and cancer survivor. Adams and Reese hosted two Glory of Baroque Dresden preview events on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at the Mississippi Arts Pavilion.  A preview luncheon was held for Mississippi University College and Community College Presidents and that evening the firm also hosted a preview reception for Mississippi School Superintendents.
