In a move that signals its deep commitment to serving its financial services clients, the law firm Adams and Reese is opening offices in Atlanta, Ga., and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., bringing on board initially 10 new lawyers to do so. This is Adams and Reese's first office in Georgia and its sixth in Florida, and gives the firm approximately 300 attorneys and advisors across 18 offices in the southern United States and Washington, D.C.

Adams and Reese Mobile Partner Jannea Rogers has served as Adams and Reese firm liaison for the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Military Pro Bono Project Committee since 2011. The ABA Military Pro Bono Project accepts case referrals from military attorneys on behalf of junior-enlisted, active-duty military personnel and their families with civil legal problems and places these cases with pro bono attorneys where legal assistance is needed. As part of her role as firm liaison, Rogers reviews available military pro bono cases in various states and circulates them to Adams and Reese attorneys in nearby offices who may be able to assist the servicemember. Available pro bono opportunities are also posted daily on the ABA’s Military Pro Bono Project website.

The law firm of Adams and Reese has closed a $75 million sale of a 1,168-lot, 55+ mobile home community in Zephyrhills, Florida, representing one of the largest transactions of its kind in the Florida manufactured home industry. The June 2016 sale of Forest Lake Estates to a large national real estate investment trust secured a high return on investment for community shareholders who originally banded together to purchase the mobile home park in 1999.

In March 2016, the Louisiana Legislature set into motion a comprehensive review of Louisiana’s budget and tax structure with the passage of House Concurrent Resolution No. 11 (HCR 11) in an effort to create a balanced structure providing for greater budget stability and inhibiting the practices that led to mid-year deficits over the last eight years. HCR 11 formed the 13-member Louisiana Department of Revenue Task Force on Structural Changes in Budget and Tax Policy in order to gather research and present recommendations. Adams and Reese Baton Rouge Partner V. Thomas “Tom” Clark was appointed by Gov. John Bel Edwards as his sole designee to the Task Force.

The law firm of Adams and Reese has made a $3,520 donation to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank following the historic August 2016 flooding that devastated thousands in southern Louisiana and heavily flooded the Food Bank’s Fraenkel Center facility. The firm’s donation will help the Food Bank continue its flood recovery efforts after it lost more than 575,000 pounds of food and nearly all of its operating assets.

Carmody, a leading bankruptcy law attorney with the law firm of Adams and Reese, has been named the inaugural Adams and Reese Senior Pro Bono Fellow in a new fellowship program recently launched by the firm. The new program offers senior attorneys the opportunity to effect change by devoting a significant portion of their working hours to pro bono ventures while continuing to serve clientele through traditional practice. For the 2016 fellowship program, Carmody will work with National Appleseed and its network of 17 social justice centers in the U.S. and Mexico. The Adams and Reese Nashville office continues its annual tradition of holding a Holiday Card Collection drive to aid the St. Jude's Ranch for Children Holiday Card Recycling Drive. St. Jude's Ranch uses old cards in a green program to teach at-risk youth about entrepreneurship skills and wage-earning jobs. The children refurbish the cards and re-sell them to the public.

The Adams and Reese Sarasota office, a longtime supporter and partner of All Faiths Food Bank, volunteered at the organization’s site on Saturday, November 22, to help distribute 950 turkey dinners to families in need for the Thanksgiving holidays. All Faiths Food Bank, in cooperation with more than 160 partner agencies, distributes food to more than 7,100 people weekly in Sarasota and DeSoto counties every day.

Adams and Reese Partner Jim Dickson presented a program this morning on “Legal Ethics: Going Beyond the Model Rules,” at The National Association of Clean Water Agencies conference held at the Don CeSar in St. Petersburg. In front of more than 100 attorneys, Dickson discussed the importance of professional responsibility and various hypothetical situations concerning legal ethical issues related to the practice of environmental law. After the presentation, instead of accepting a $500 stipend for the presentation, Dickson directed that the Association donate the stipend to “Water for People,” on behalf of Adams and Reese.

The 25th annual American Cancer Society Chili Cookoff was held this past Saturday, March 8th, at The Grounds in West Mobile, formerly the Greater Gulf State Fairgrounds, as Adams and Reese was among the more than 80 teams competing in a cookoff for a good cause, raising money for cancer research. The event raised an estimated $250,000.
