Russell Rutherford joined Adams and Reese in 2011 as an Associate in the firm’s Birmingham office. Russell is a member of the Special Business Services Group, practicing in commercial restructuring/bankruptcy and banking and finance law.
Russell is a former summer associate at Adams and Reese. During his time as a summer associate, he gained experience in bankruptcy, banking, insurance and employment law matters.
He is a former intern of the Honorable Tom King, Jr., Tenth Judicial Circuit of Alabama and the Honorable Charles Malone, Sixth Judicial Circuit of Alabama.
Russell’s significant law school achievements include:
- Serving as an associate editor of the Alabama Law Review and a member of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board.
- Authoring an article on human rights that was selected by peers for publication in the Alabama Law Review.
- Being selected for the Dean’s Community Service Award and as a member of the Order of the Samaritan because of time spent volunteering with Impact Alabama, Habitat for Humanity, the Jefferson County Circuit Court, and other philanthropic endeavors.
Russell is a member of Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society, and in the community, he has volunteered for SaveFirst, an initiative of Impact Alabama, where he prepared income tax returns for low-income individuals. He has also helped construct new homes and participated in fundraisers benefiting Habitat for Humanity.
Russell received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law in May 2011 and earned his B.A. in English and Economics, summa cum laude, from the University of Mississippi in 2008.
Among the people Russell most admires are his parents, who instilled in him the importance of a strong work ethic and involvement in the community.
Russell is a fan of Atlanta Braves baseball and Ole Miss Rebel football and, in his spare time, he enjoys reading writers such as Barry Hannah, Richard Ford, Cormac McCarthy, and William Gibson. He also enjoys cooking on the grill or the smoker.
