Adams and Reese Partner Gif Thornton, of the firm's Nashville office, has been elected Chairman of the firm's Executive Committee. The Adams and Reese Executive Committee, comprised of six partners, oversees the strategic operations of the firm and its attorneys and staff in 12 offices in six states and Washington, DC.
Thornton is a partner on the Adams and Reese Governmental Relations Team. He serves as legislative counsel to a number of businesses, as well as trade associations and governmental entities with interests at the Tennessee General Assembly. In addition, he represents clients before regulatory boards and administrative agencies of local, state and federal government. He has extensive experience in the areas of public utilities, telecommunications, energy, health care, insurance, transportation and public safety.
Thornton is listed in Best Lawyers® in America (Government Relations Law, Insurance Law). He is included in Business Tennessee's "2009 Power 100" listing of influential people in Tennessee. He was selected by BusinessTN magazine as one of the "2010 Best 150 Lawyers in Tennessee", out of the 18,000 active lawyers in the state. Thornton has chaired the Government Affairs Committee of the Tennessee Bar Association and has served as an elected member in its House of Delegates. He is a former president of the board of the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and is a Fellow of the Tennessee and Nashville Bar Foundations. He has served on the Boards of Trust of Vanderbilt University and Brentwood Academy, as well as Daystar Counseling Ministries. He is a member of the Leadership Nashville Alumni Association.
Thornton is a former member of the Davidson County Election Commission. He was a student delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1980 and has served as counsel to a number of statewide Republican campaigns.
