Adams and Reese attorney Jim Dickson, Partner in the law firm’s St. Petersburg office, has achieved Board Certification in Construction Law from The Florida Bar. Board certification distinguishes Dickson as a specialist and expert in the practice area of construction, and identifies him as an attorney with special knowledge, skills and proficiency, as well as a reputation for professionalism and ethics, the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar of competency and experience.


Of the more than 90,000 attorneys in Florida, there are only 291 Florida attorneys certified in Construction Law and only about five percent of all attorneys are recognized as specialists in one or more of the 24 certification areas. 


Practicing law since 1978, Dickson focuses his practice on construction law, environmental law and commercial litigation, representing owners, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in all aspects of construction law, including bidding, contract preparation and negotiation, surety bonds, claim resolution, mediation, arbitration, and litigation. He further represents clients in a broad array of environmental matters concerning hazardous substances, contaminated property, Brownfields, asbestos, RCRA, CERCLA, and toxic torts. He also practices in land use, title, trade regulation, commercial litigation and general business negotiations.


An accomplished author and lecturer, Dickson has written and spoken extensively on construction, bond and lien law as well as environmental law. Dickson has been recognized in Florida Super Lawyers® (by Thomson Reuters), as well as Best Lawyers® (by BL Rankings, LLC), in Construction and Environmental Law.  He also serves as an Adjunct Professor as Stetson University School of Law where he teaches a course titled Environmental Hazards Associated with Real Property.


An active member of the bar and the community, Dickson has been a recipient of the Florida Bar Pro Bono Service Award, St. Petersburg Bar Pro Bono Award, National Association for Community Leadership, Distinguished Leadership Award and the Leadership St. Petersburg Alumni Association Leadership Award.

Dickson currently serves as a board member of the Community Law Program and chairs the Transportation Committee for the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. He has previously served as the General Counsel to St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and as a Board member for the Chamber and other community organizations including Leadership St. Petersburg Alumni Association, St. Petersburg Human Relations Review Board, Gulfcoast Legal Services, Florida Legal Services, the Community Alliance, City of St. Petersburg Police Advisory Council, City of St. Petersburg Committee to Advocate Persons with Impairments, Tampa Water Resource Recovery Project Task Force, Florida International Museum, and the Early Learning Council of Pinellas County.
