Adams and Reese attorney Jim Dickson, in the firm’s St. Petersburg office, was featured in the Law360 Environmental Law Section with a Q&A about his legal practice, published on the Law360 web site on March 15th.
Dickson discussed his most challenging cases, what aspects of environmental law practice are in need of reform, some important issues to his practice, and a mistake he made early in his career that he has learned from.
Dickson is a Partner at Adams and Reese and focuses his practice on environmental law concerning hazardous substances, contaminated property, brownfields, asbestos, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act and toxic torts. He also practices commercial litigation, construction law, land use, title, trade regulation and general business negotiations.
As an adjunct professor at Stetson University School of Law, he teaches Environmental Hazards Associated with Real Property. Dickson has served on the steering committee at a number of Superfund Sites from 1984 through the present. He routinely advises clients on responses to 104(e) requests under CERCLA and has often assisted clients in response to notices of RCRA or NPDES violations and has negotiated many Consent Orders.
An active member of the bar and the community, Dickson has been a recipient of the Florida Bar Pro Bono Service Award, St. Petersburg Bar Pro Bono Award, National Association for Community Leadership, Distinguished Leadership Award and the Leadership St. Petersburg Alumni Association Leadership Award.
Dickson has served as the General Counsel to St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and as a Board member of the Chamber, Leadership St. Petersburg Alumni Association, St. Petersburg Human Relations Review Board, Gulfcoast Legal Services, Florida Legal Services, Community Law, Inc., the Community Alliance, City of St. Petersburg Police Advisory Council, City of St. Petersburg Committee to Advocate Persons with Impairments, Tampa Water Resource Recovery Project Task Force, Florida International Museum, and the Early Learning Council of Pinellas County.
