Adams and Reese partnered with Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans and St. Andrew’s Village to assist the two nonprofit community organizations in receiving grants through the Drew Brees Super Service Challenge, a partnership between New Orleans Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees’ The Brees Dream Foundation and Companies With A Mission. Junior Achievement received a $10,000 grant, while St. Andrew’s Village earned a $2,000 grant.
In total, The Brees Dream Foundation and Companies With A Mission awarded $1 million in prize money to more than 250 New Orleans charities in the Challenge.
The announcement was made on January 30th inside the “NFL Experience” at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in conjunction with activities surrounding Super Bowl week in New Orleans. Businesses were asked to assist nonprofits in a daily activity of charity work and then submit those efforts to the Super Service Challenge via written nominations and videos.
On December 19th, Adams and Reese volunteered at Junior Achievement through the nonprofit organization’s “BizTown Day” with fifth graders from Alice Birney Elementary in Metairie. BizTown Day is a regular JA program that helps sustain JA’s mission of inspiring and preparing young people to successfully participate in our economy through workforce development, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. During this on-site experience, students assume the roles of adults while they work at a business, receive a paycheck, maintain a checking account and purchase goods and services.
Adams and Reese has been a longtime volunteer member in activities through the Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans, Inc., through the law firm's employee volunteer program, HUGS (Hope, Understanding, Giving, and Support), and Adams and Reese plans to continue that productive partnership of making a difference in the community for kids through future activities. On November 26th, Adams and Reese held its fourth annual Holiday Card Stuffing and Luncheon Party for St. Andrew’s Village where employees of Adams and Reese invited the young adults, family members and friends of St. Andrew’s Village to come together and help stuff more than 2,000 Holiday cards to mail out into the community to the village’s supporters, families and friends. These cards are annually designed and donated by Adams and Reese, and the Holiday Card stuffing party represents just one of the events of the long-time partnership between Adams and Reese and St. Andrew’s Village as part of the law firm’s employee volunteer program, HUGS.
St. Andrew’s Village (501(c)(3)) will be a faith-based, mixed-use village community to be built on 100 acres in Abita Springs, Louisiana, where both adults with developmental disabilities and non-disabled individuals can live, work, worship, and socialize throughout their lifelong journey. Born of a partnership between parents and community members to provide for adults with special needs, St. Andrew's Village will be the first community of its kind in the state of Louisiana.
Adams and Reese New Orleans office Partner Mark Surprenant began the law firm’s relationship with St. Andrew’s Village as he sits on the Board of Directors, and Adams and Reese has always lent both volunteer and pro bono work to St. Andrew’s Village for the last eight years to help the dream of the community become a reality.
Adams and Reese attorney Mark Embree originally helped St. Andrew's Village by serving as the organization’s corporate attorney, setting up the Village for nonprofit status as a 501(c)(3) corporation, and providing legal advice and legal consultation through its fundraising and development efforts. Adams and Reese attorneys have continued to help St. Andrew’s Village in whatever legal assistance the organization needs, and also volunteer at any of the organization’s fundraising efforts or events, such as the Holiday card stuffing party, where our employees get the opportunity to interact with the villagers.
