Adams and Reese Partner Phil Buffington has been named among the top 10 “Leaders in Law” in Mississippi Business Journal’s 2016 Leadership in Law class. Buffington was honored at the Journal’s Dec. 13 reception and awards celebration recognizing members of the state’s legal community for their professional and community contributions. He will also be profiled in the Journal's Leadership in Law 2016 magazine.

Now in their sixth year, the Mississippi Business Journal Leadership in Law awards honor the state’s most successful attorneys, recognizing both legal success and qualities of character such as integrity, ability to inspire and lead others, willingness to mentor others, and an overall passion for client service. Buffington was ranked among the Journal’s top 10 attorneys in Mississippi in this year’s class of 40 honorees.

At Adams and Reese, Buffington serves as Partner in Charge of the firm’s Jackson office, Co-Leader of the Banking and Finance Team, and a member of the Transactions and Corporate Advisory Services Practice Group. Practicing financial institution law since 1984, Buffington represents financial institutions in regulatory matters, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, commercial lending law, capital planning, and securities law. He also handles financial institution litigation matters in state and federal courts and federal agencies, with a particular focus on mediation and arbitration. Additionally, he handles matters involving insurance regulatory law and nonprofit and charitable organizations, including affordable housing law.

In the legal community, Buffington serves as one of the firms’ representatives with various bankers associations throughout the firm’s footprint and as a member of various sections within the American Bar Association, including the Banking Law Committee, Affordable Housing & Community Development Forum, and Business Law Section. He is also a member of the Business Law Section of the Mississippi Bar Association. A Mississippi native, Buffington is also an adjunct professor at Mississippi College School of Law and former President of the Mississippi College School of Law Alumni. In addition, he serves on the University of Mississippi Banking and Finance Advisory Board, as Vice-Chairman of the Madison County Business League and Foundation, and on the Board of Governors of the Mississippi Economic Council.

Buffington has been recognized among the Mid-South Super Lawyers in Banking since 2011 and as a Best Lawyer in Banking and Finance and Mergers and Acquisitions Law for the past two years.
