C. Phillip Buffington, Adams and Reese Partner in Charge of the firm’s Jackson office, has been named a member of the University of Mississippi Banking and Finance Board.

Practicing law since 1984, Buffington has extensive experience in the banking and financial service arena which will be beneficial to serving as a board member. Buffington serves as a co-leader of the firm’s Banking and Finance Team of attorneys throughout the firm’s regional footprint which includes the states of Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee and Washington, D.C.

According to Dr. Ken Cyree, Dean, School of Business Administration, “We are excited that Phil is joining the Ole Miss Banking and Finance Board. He has been an outstanding supporter of the program, and has added his in-depth knowledge of banking topics in the School of Banking. He has been a solid contributor and I expect him to continue providing value for our students and other stakeholders.”

The University of Mississippi Banking and Finance Board helps to provide support for the school, internship and placement opportunities for students, summer research opportunities for faculty, advice on our academic offerings, and more, including planning and organizing the University of Mississippi Banking Symposium each year.

Buffington states, “I am a long-time supporter of the university, the school of business administration, and the work of the banking and finance board. I look forward to serving and contributing.”

Buffington is an adjunct professor at Mississippi College School of Law, and is a former President of the Mississippi College School of Law Alumni. He earned his J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law in 1984 and he double majored in banking and finance/insurance at University of Mississippi, earning his B.B.A. in 1981.

Buffington has extensive experience in representing financial institutions, including representation in regulatory matters, corporate, commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, securities law and creditor bankruptcy. In addition, he has experience in banking litigation in state and federal courts and federal agencies, including mediation and arbitration.

In the legal arena, Buffington is a member of various sections within the American Bar Association, including the Banking Law Committee. He is also a member of the Business Law Section and Real Property Section of the Mississippi Bar Association.

Buffington is AV® Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, a Mid-South Super Lawyer® in Banking and a Best Lawyer® in Mergers and Acquisitions Law.

In the community, Buffington is heavily involved with St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral, having served in various positions and on numerous committees, and has served on various nonprofit organizations boards. He currently serves on the Mississippi Economic Council Board of Governors and is Secretary-Treasurer of the Madison County Business League & Foundation and is also a former board member of Habitat for Humanity/Metro Jackson, Inc.
