Adams and Reese
Henry practiced law for more than 50 years, since 1960 when he joined his father’s (James Alexander Simpson) firm, Lange, Simpson, Robinson & Somerville LLP. Henry, along with his late brother, James Evans Simpson, were instrumental in Lange Simpson’s merger with Adams and Reese in 2003.
Henry was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, having represented clients in more than 200 jury trials in litigation of all kinds. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Regions Financial Corporation from 1969 to 2003. Henry was ranked among Best Lawyers (by Levine Leichtman Capital Partners) in Banking, Commercial Litigation, Personal Injury Litigation, and was also listed in Alabama Super Lawyers (by Thomson Reuters) in Banking Law. He was an active member of the Alabama State Bar Association, Birmingham Bar Association, Alabama Law Institute Business Entities Committee, and the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association.
Henry had a great interest in history and served as a Trustee and Chairman of the Civil War Preservation Trust of Washington, DC, formerly the Association of Preservation of Civil War Sites. The Civil War Trust is the largest battlefield preservation organization in the United States, and Henry helped preserve our endangered Civil War sites and promoted appreciation of these hallowed grounds through education and tourism.
He was also a member of Independent Presbyterian Church, The Redstone Club, Birmingham Country Club
Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Nesbitt Simpson, and two brothers James Evans Simpson and Joseph E. Simpson. He is survived by his children, Charles Hatcher Simpson (Kate), Elizabeth Simpson Poynor (Wilmer), John Rembert Simpson, and eight grandchildren.
