Clients tell me they appreciate the two decades of experience and deep reservoir of knowledge in administrative law, trial and appellate work that I bring to my practice. I primarily focus on strategically counseling organizations through the many complex legal issues that surface in the health care industry.
Mary Peyton defends health care providers in medical malpractice litigation, including pre-panel, post-panel and appeals. She is experienced in professional liability cases, hospital credentialing matters, disciplinary proceedings and fair hearings, having handled matters from the perspective of the individual practitioner, the hospital medical executive committee and/or the applicable state oversight board.
Additionally, Mary counsels clients in complex commercial, product liability/medical device, general casualty and insurance defense litigation, as well as federal and state workers’ compensation matters. She has assisted in trying jury cases in Jefferson and Orleans Parish courts, and she previously clerked for the Office of Administrative Law Judge C. Richard Avery, US Department of Labor.
Working to increase diversity in bar organizations and the legal profession as a whole, Mary spearheads initiatives to further this goal, including seminars she presents to law firms and businesses on recruiting and on maintaining a diverse workforce through inclusion and sponsoring. She is active in the Defense Research Institute (DRI), the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) and the New Orleans Bar Association (NOBA).
