The law firm of Adams and Reese added special counsel Matthew C. “Matt” Guy to the firm’s New Orleans and Houston offices as announced by Adams and Reese Managing Partner, Gif Thornton. Guy brings to the firm extensive domestic and international experience.

Guy’s practice focuses on litigation arising out of marine construction, maritime, marine insurance and all aspects of oil and gas operations worldwide. It includes the representation of domestic and international construction companies, drilling contractors, offshore service vessel owners, ship owners, shipyards and rig repair facilities, engineers and designers, as well as their insurers.

“Matt brings with him highly sought-after experience and a wealth of knowledge that will further benefit our clients both domestically and internationally,” Thornton said. “He will be a valuable asset to our clients and we are excited to have him as a member of our highly respected and recognized litigation practice at Adams and Reese.”

Guy began his career at an international law firm in London, England, where his practice focused on marine and energy insurance. Prior to joining Adams and Reese, he practiced at a New Orleans boutique firm where he served as an associate from 2005-08 and a partner from 2009-17. During that time, Guy worked primarily in maritime, transportation, oil and gas, insurance and construction matters, which included multiple jury trials, arbitrations and appeals as both first and second chair.

He has prosecuted and defended numerous complex maritime, energy, construction and related insurance claims in federal, state and appellate courts of Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, New York and the High Court of England & Wales, in addition to various arbitration tribunals.

A 1997 graduate of Oxford University’s Magdalen College, Guy was President of the Oxford Union Society during the Michaelmas Term in 1995 and an Exhibitioner Scholar from 1994-97. After earning his M.A. in Modern History, he completed his Diploma in Law at City University School of Law and then qualified as Barrister at the Inns of Court School of Law (London, England,) and was called to the Bar of England and Wales by Gray’s Inn in 1999.

In 2005, Guy obtained an L.L.M. in Admiralty from Tulane University Law School where he was a Fellow in Maritime Law, the Henry R. Stiles, Jr., Scholar and the winner of the Edward Dodd Prize in Admiralty Law. Guy holds memberships in the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, State Bar of Texas, Louisiana State Bar Association, Maritime Law Association of the United States and the International Society of Barristers.

Reflecting his accomplishments in the legal profession, Guy has been listed among Louisiana Super Lawyers (by Thomson Reuters) since 2013 and among both Best Lawyers in America® (by BL Rankings, LLC) and New Orleans CityBusiness Leaders in Law in 2017. Active in the community as well, Guy is a faculty member of the Tulane Law School Civil Litigation Boot Camp, serves as Treasurer of the Tulane Inn of Court and is Court Watch NOLA’s Board of Directors’ Chair.
