Adams and Reese Partner Giles Perkins, in the firm's Birmingham office, is one of nearly 50 members of the Birmingham business community to be tapped to lead a fundraising campaign for the University of Alabama at Birmingham athletics program. The UAB Athletics Campaign will officially launch on Aug. 18.

The full committee was unveiled Thursday, and was assembled by Royal Cup Coffee Emeritus CEO Hatton Smith and the Blazer Boosters. A majority of the funds raised will be focused on athletic facilities.

Perkins, a fourth generation lawyer living in Birmingham, Alabama, and practicing law since 1992, works at the intersection of government and business and shepherds clients through litigation, regulation, public finance, legislation and administrative concerns.

Perkins served as Executive Director of the Alabama Democratic Party from 1997 to 1999, and is a former candidate for the Attorney General office in Alabama. As outside counsel, he has advised scores of elected officials in Alabama, including two governors and many leaders of the Alabama Legislature.

Perkins is active in the Birmingham community as a Founding Member of the Birmingham Zoo, Inc., where he was instrumental in making it the number one tourist attraction in Alabama. He served as President of the Railroad Park Foundation during the construction of the 22 million-dollar green space, park, and amphitheater in downtown Birmingham. Railroad Park won the Urban Land Institute's Open Spaces Award as well as many other accolades. It has transformed downtown Birmingham.
