Adams and Reese is proud to announce its Managing Partner, Gif Thornton has appointed Scott Hetrick as the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Team Leader.

“I am excited for the opportunity to help maximize our Labor and Employment team’s efforts across the firm’s footprint, and look forward to guiding them to support clients to the best of our ability,” says Hetrick, Partner in Adams and Reese’s Mobile office.

As a management rights advocate, Hetrick represents employers on federal and state labor and employment law compliance and dispute resolution. He counsels clients with an eye to preventing claims arising from day-to-day employment decisions. An important component of his practice involves drafting and revising employee handbooks, personnel policies and procedures, employment applications, background check disclosure and consent agreements and employment contracts, including non-compete agreements, trade secret agreements and arbitration agreements.

In addition to drafting policies, procedures, and employment-related documents, he assists companies in running their compliance with labor and employment laws by providing training to managers, supervisors, and employees.

Hetrick routinely defends management decisions against legal challenges, including responding to hundreds of discrimination charges filed against employers with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In addition, Scott advises on and prepares affirmative action plans for United States government contractors and subcontractors and represents them in responding to compliance audits of those plans by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). He has prepared more than 200 affirmative action plans and defended against more than 15 OFCCP compliance audits.

Hetrick received his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1994 and his B.A. from Tulane University in 1991.
