Adams & Reese represented Soterra LLC, a subsidiary of publicly traded company Greif Inc., in the $462 million sale of its timberlands business – approximately 173,000 acres across Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

A global leader in industrial packaging products and services, Greif (NYSE: GEF, GEF.B) sold its Soterra land management business to Molpus Woodlands Group, a leading timberland investment management organization (TIMO), and also a longtime client of Adams & Reese. Molpus manages over 1.7 million acres of timberland investments in 15 states and is an independent company fully focused on North American timberland.

The deal is expected to close shortly before or after the fiscal year end, subject to customary closing conditions.

“It’s a sale that provides substantial benefit and strategic alignment for all parties, and we were honored to advise Greif and Soterra in this significant transaction of their land management business to Molpus,” said Adams & Reese Forestry Team Leader Gee Ogletree, who led the representation of Soterra with Forestry Team Member and Partner Alex Bondurant.

Ogletree and Bondurant were joined by a team of Adams & Reese attorneys across the national law firm’s footprint, including from our Jackson office: Litigation Practice Group Leader & Partner Jeff Trotter, Counsel Philip Hollimon, Associates Whit Kendall and Danielle Street, and paralegal Gina Donald; from our New Orleans office: Partner Mark Beebe and Counsel Philip Sherman; and from our Baton Rouge office: Associate Jason Roussel.

“This $462 million, multi-state transaction is a powerful demonstration of our Forestry Team’s national reputation as lead counsel in complex timberland deals,” said Ogletree. “It perfectly showcases our firm's ability to seamlessly coordinate efforts across our entire footprint to achieve a successful outcome.”
