Jim Dickson has been named a recipient of the St. Petersburg Bar Foundation’s 2018 Heroes Among Us award. Dickson, an Of Counsel attorney in the firm’s St. Petersburg office, is one of only two lawyers receiving this honor for 2018.
The Heroes Among Us Award was established by the St. Petersburg Bar Foundation in 2005. Since then, the St. Petersburg Bar Foundation has recognized attorneys who give their time and talents to the community on an annual basis. Recipients of the Heroes Among Us Award are honored at an event that showcases their contributions.
Award recipients are also honored on a St. Petersburg Bar Foundation Heroes Among Us monument at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida.
Dickson was a founding board member of the Community Law Program, a local pro bono legal aid group, founded in 1989. He returned to the Board several years ago and currently serves as the Board President. He often accepts pro bono cases in keeping with his commitment to community service and because he feels that lawyers need to ensure that everyone has access to the legal system, regardless of income.
Dickson has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Stetson University College of Law for more than 25 years, where he teaches a course in Environmental Law. He serves as General Counsel and member of the Executive Committee and Board of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
Over the years, Dickson has received recognition from numerous legal and civic organizations for his dedication to pro bono service and for his leadership in the community. Dickson has received The Florida Bar Pro Bono Service Award, multiple St. Petersburg Bar Pro Bono Awards, the National Association for Community Leadership Distinguished Leadership Award, the Leadership St. Petersburg Alumni Association Leadership Award and the Chamber Member of Year Award.
