Overview
Recognized around the world by clients and attorney rating services alike, attorneys in the Global IP Team at Adams & Reese represent multi-national and middle-market companies in Europe, Asia, South America and throughout North America. We offer strategic counsel on trademark, patent and copyright matters, and on a wide range of other intellectual property issues.
The Adams & Reese Global IP Practice is ranked Band 1 in Tennessee by Chambers USA.
Often our “wins” manifest by helping clients manage risk and avoid litigation or dispense with claims quickly. But when litigation is unavoidable, we know how to uncover and exploit opponents’ weaknesses, globalize disputes, and deliver resolution on commercially favorable terms.
- When one of the largest publicly traded companies in Singapore needed representation in a U.S.-based trademark dispute, it retained our firm. This bet-the-company case – the trademark in question was our client’s brand name – ultimately involved pending actions in 12 nations. Our IP attorneys deployed global strategies, probing for flaws in the portfolio of the other side, a well-funded Belgian company. Our extensive approach worked as we were able to settle before dispositive motions; our client is still using its name; the other company is not.
- In a pair of related, complex U.S. patent infringement cases, our attorneys battled one of the top IP law firms in the country to enforce our client’s patents. The case settled confidentially with judgment in our favor and total victory for our client, including recognition of the validity of the patents, which our team had written and registered during 10 years of client service.
A Growing Client Concern
Increasingly, companies across the nation and all over the globe are most worried about recapturing the sales they lose to online counterfeiting and repairing the brand damage incurred by counterfeit products sold under their brands. For many, it’s the biggest single IP issue. Our attorneys have developed innovative anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy initiatives. We collaborate with clients to craft tailor-made enforcement solutions that do much more than simply play games of “whack-a-mole” with these pirates; our creative protection strategies actually strike a blow that stops the leakage on clients’ bottom lines.

Summary
Clients tell us they appreciate the experience and knowledge base we bring to sophisticated matters, and they point to these attributes, all of which are key tenets of our team’s culture: We’re truly global in scope, which creates leverage and advantages for clients; we’re fast, completing work more quickly than expected, which adds value; we’re responsive, replying to calls or e-mails promptly; we manage our services across practices and offices, which enhances efficiencies and benefits clients.
Companies in Hong Kong, London, New York or other major markets wanting to roll out new international brands, have called on our trademark attorneys. Drawing on years of experience, our team helps these clients navigate the complex, multi-national brand-clearance process to find an un-tethered brand name. We then register those new brands, and clients launch them out secure in the knowledge that they’ll be able to keep them.
