Adams and Reese Partner and leading ethics law attorney Lucian Pera will serve as a guest speaker for the Joseph G. Miller and William C. Becker Center for Professional Responsibility Distinguished Lecture Series.

Pera will present “Ethics, Lawyering, and Regulation in a Time of Great Change: Field Notes from the (R)evolution,” on Friday, April 12, from Noon to 1 p.m. The discussion, which has been approved for one hour of Professional Conduct/CLE, will take place at the Brennan Courtroom, Room 180, at The University of Akron School of Law.

The presentation will discuss how from all directions, unmistakable signals show that the American legal profession and the business of law is currently in the midst of great change. A tour d’horizon, says Pera, reveals two broad categories of change – those driven by economics and those driven by regulatory reforms.

At Adams and Reese, Pera’s practice focuses on legal ethics work, media law, and commercial litigation. Pera is one of the nation’s leading legal ethics practitioners. For more than 30 years, he has represented lawyers, law firms, clients, and those who do business with lawyers and law firms, on the widest possible array of issues relating to legal ethics and the regulation of lawyers. His practice is national in scope.

The ABA Center for Professional Responsibility bestowed on Pera the prestigious Michael Franck Award, their highest award for work in the field of ethics and professional responsibility over his career. Pera was the youngest member of the ABA “Ethics 2000” Commission that rewrote the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct.

Pera served three years as chair of the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility. He speaks and writes extensively on the ethical and regulatory aspects of the rapidly-changing legal services market. Pera’s wide-ranging civil litigation practice includes a variety of commercial, and intellectual property litigation, as well as numerous state and federal appeals.
