Rubin to Speak on Ethics and Contract Drafting at ICSC+USLAW 2026
Event Date: Oct 22, 2026
Adams & Reese Counsel Michael H. Rubin will present a General Session at ICSC+USLAW 2026, the annual law conference of the International Council of Shopping Centers, held Oct. 20–23, 2026, in Orlando, Florida. The conference is expected to attract more than 1,100 attendees, approximately 60 percent being in-house counsel for shopping centers and their tenants, including national retailers such as Target, Foot Locker, and McDonald's. On Thursday, Oct. 22, Rubin will present "Ethics and Contract Drafting: If You're a Good Legal Writer, You Don't Write Good," which builds on his article of the same title in Probate & Property.
Although each party to a transaction typically has its own counsel, ethical obligations still shape contract drafting. In this fast-paced, multimedia session, Rubin will examine how ABA Model Rule 4.1, which prohibits lawyers from deceiving opposing parties, applies (or may not apply) to contract drafting, and which ethics rules, if any, govern contracts created with artificial intelligence.
This is Rubin’s fifth invitation to present at ICSC, where his sessions typically draw 500 to more than 900 attendees.
Rubin, a Baton Rouge-based appellate and real estate attorney, is ranked Senior Statesman in Litigation: Appellate in Louisiana by Chambers USA and is a past member of the ABA Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
