Adams & Reese, which represents the national trade association Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), congratulates the winners of the SCA annual safety awards for calendar year 2024. Fourteen shipyards received recognition for either excellence in safety or improvement in safety. Awardees were announced during the SCA spring meeting’s safety award ceremony.

The SCA has advocated for a strong U.S. maritime industry and American shipyard industrial base since its founding in 1920.

“Year after year, the shipbuilding and repair industry proves that safety is more than a goal – it’s embedded in the culture of our workforce and operations,” said Matt Paxton, SCA President & Adams & Reese DC Partner in Charge. “Recipients of this award are setting the benchmark for prioritizing the industry’s greatest asset – its people – while strengthening the capabilities that keep our maritime sector resilient and prepared.”

Since 2015, Adams & Reese has represented the SCA, the national trade association that represents more than 140 member companies that build, repair, maintain, modernize, and supply ships for the U.S. military and other commercial vessels. In addition to Paxton’s leadership, Adams & Reese GR Advisor Paula Zorensky serves as SCA Vice President, and Adams & Reese GR Advisor Davis Gaddy serves as SCA Director of Government Relations.

To be eligible for the annual SCA Safety Awards, member shipyards must submit complete injury and illness data for all four quarters, report no fatalities for the year, and either maintain a total recordable incident rate (TRIR) below the SCA average or reduce their TRIR by at least 10% from the previous year.

“These awardees demonstrate that prioritizing safety not only protects people but strengthens the entire industry – helping to ensure that America’s shipyards remain the safest in the world and setting a high standard for continuous improvement that resonates beyond shipbuilding,” said Brad Moyer, SCA Chairman and VP of Business Development and Strategic Planning for BAE Systems Ship Repair.
