Adams & Reese attorney Chris Yost’s article, “Colorado’s New Construction Bill: What Developers Need to Know,” is published in Law Week Colorado. The publication is the state’s only newspaper specifically for lawyers, law firms, corporate counsel, and the judiciary.

In the article, Yost discusses key provisions of House Bill 25-1272, recently signed into law by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis. It’s a significant piece of legislation aimed at reforming the construction defect process, particularly for middle market housing (multifamily, attached housing of two or more units), to promote the construction of affordable homes in Colorado.

This bill introduces several changes that will impact developers, builders, and other stakeholders in the construction industry. The bill will take effect on Aug. 6, with the MCIP coming into effect after Jan. 1, 2026. Developers should begin preparing now to understand how these changes will affect their current and future projects.

At Adams & Reese, Yost is licensed to practice in state and federal courts throughout Colorado, and he primarily practices in the firm’s construction and commercial litigation practices. He also has extensive experience representing clients in a wide range of industries throughout all stages of litigation. In addition to his construction litigation, he represents companies, directors, and shareholders in derivative actions, member disputes, and corporate governance matters.

A Colorado native, Yost graduated from the University of Colorado, earning his B.A. in Political Science and Government. After earning his undergraduate degree, he moved to DC where he received his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, served as an editor for the George Washington Law Review, and worked at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
