Overview
With more than 20 years of trial and courtroom experience, Darrick Lee O'Dell serves as Special Counsel in the firm's Construction Practice Group in Nashville. His practice focuses on construction litigation, large-loss property damage claims, insurance coverage disputes, and general liability defense, where he has built a reputation for combining industry knowledge with strategic, business-minded guidance that drives practical results.
Clients turn to Darrick for his ability to pair deep litigation experience with a grounded understanding of the business realities they face. His seasoned experience and broad perspective allow him to anticipate risk, manage exposure, and provide focused, efficient representation.
Before joining Adams & Reese, Darrick served as primary counsel on numerous multi-million-dollar cases involving construction damage, business losses, and wrongful death claims. He has represented insurance carriers, self-insured businesses, and contractors in high-exposure litigation, building a strong record in both jury trials and binding arbitrations.
Darrick’s construction law experience covers the full spectrum of disputes, from complex defect claims and large-loss property damage to coverage analysis and contractor liability. He has also served as retained outside general counsel for a nationwide roofing and remodeling contractor, overseeing contract negotiation and drafting, employment compliance, and nationwide litigation management.
A Nashville resident since 1993, Darrick is an active member of the Nashville Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. He is admitted to practice in all Tennessee trial and appellate courts, including the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Eastern Districts of Tennessee.
Darrick earned his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he served as a staff writer for The Transnational Lawyer, and his B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

- Obtained dismissal of a two-million-dollar lawsuit against a general contractor through a motion for summary judgment by invoking the workers' compensation exclusive remedy defense.
- Secured complete defense judgments in two consecutive jury trials held back-to-back. The first trial involved successfully defending a restaurant in a products liability case concerning a foreign object, and the second involved successfully defending a commercial vehicle operator in a case arising from an interstate collision with a motorcycle.
- Obtained a complete defense judgment in binding arbitration for an employer against age discrimination and retaliation claims. Despite the plaintiff's claim of a strong performance record and replacement by a significantly younger individual, the defense successfully established that the employer's actions were based on legitimate, non-discriminatory reasons.
- Obtained dismissal of a five-million-dollar defamation case brought by an attorney against his client and, in doing so, obtained a significant judgment for attorney fees under the Tennessee Public Participation Act.
- Secured a dismissal via summary judgment on behalf of cable guard rail installer in a case arising out of a multi-vehicle accident arising out of alleged defective cable guard rail installation and maintenance.
