Joseph Nguyen is a member of the Adams & Reese Litigation Practice Group. Practicing in the Columbia office, Joseph brings a diverse legal and professional background to the firm, where he focuses on a range of commercial litigation matters, and his multifaceted experience in legal, chemical, and political fields provides him with a comprehensive understanding of various industries and legal challenges.
Joseph focused on patent law while earning his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law, and he is a registered patent agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He also has an M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of South Florida.
Prior to joining Adams & Reese, Joseph served as an Assistant Solicitor for the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. As a lead attorney, he argued in general sessions, common pleas, and magistrate courts. He also managed civil forfeiture actions across the Seventh Judicial Circuit, including settlement negotiations, motions hearings, and trials. Joseph’s clerk experience while in law school covered work in maritime law disputes, tax code issues, wrongful termination lawsuits, and contract issues.
Joseph interned for the office of South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, working in the division of constituent services on a variety of congressional tasks, including contributing to policy updates and the organization of a leadership development program.
Further distinguishing his diverse background, Joseph possesses project management experience in the chemical manufacturing sector, where he honed skills in planning, execution, and inter-departmental communication. He also developed an understanding of both chemical engineering principles and computer science/engineering fundamentals within a manufacturing environment.
