Overview
Mairi Cooley is a member of the Adams & Reese Construction Practice Group and an Associate in the Tampa office. Mairi represents developers, architects and engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, manufacturers, roofers, public agencies, and other key stakeholders in the construction industry.
Focused largely on dispute resolution, Mairi defends clients in construction litigation matters such as contract disputes, construction defects claims, bid protests, payment disputes, delay claims, lien and bond claims, schedule acceleration matters, and insurance disputes. She also assists with contract drafting from project conception through completion and assists clients in real estate civil litigation, such as matters involving real property, condominium associations, homeowner associations, deed restriction enforcement, and other real estate disputes.
Mairi’s clerkships and internships while attending law school included drafting documents, such as demand letters, and conducting large-scale, detailed discovery projects. She has filed court documents, prepared exhibits, and edited motions. A thorough and aggressive researcher, for instance, Mairi followed up on a stale client matter, pursued and discovered an unclaimed sum of money for a client, and then, based on a hunch, discovered a significant amount of additional unclaimed funds. Additionally, she helped bring an ongoing pro bono matter to a close through research and client communication efforts, securing a favorable settlement outcome.

During law school and while employed by a contractor licensing company, Mairi drafted employee contracts, non-disclosure agreements and worked closely with construction companies on the acquisition of their licenses to do work across the U.S. Mairi wrote continuing education courses on financial stability in the construction practice, construction lien law, and an advanced course on the significant changes in the Florida building code’s 8th edition.
Defending business clients comes naturally to Mairi, who, while actively pursuing her bachelor’s degree, started her own beauty salon business under strict COVID-19 restrictions. She learned the process of starting and registering a business, managing employees, and client relations.
During law school, Mairi served as an executive board member of the Florida A&M Law Review and published a note on interstate commerce and personal jurisdiction, with a focus on the implications a recent Supreme Court decision would have on expanding businesses.
In the community, Mairi helps deliver Meals on Wheels during the holidays.
