Overview

Michael Stevenson is a member of the Alcohol and Hospitality Team in the firm’s Nashville office. He represents clients across the industry’s supply chain, from breweries, distilleries, and wineries to distributors, retailers, bars, and restaurants.

Michael honed his legal skills through a series of clerkships and externships spanning business litigation, intellectual property, environmental law, and criminal defense. His experience includes trademark prosecution before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board, researching and drafting memoranda on local and federal regulations, and assisting with criminal defense litigation. He also served as a research assistant under former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Harold See in the area of trademark law and clerked for the Davidson County General Sessions Court, where he observed and analyzed cases for the Honorable Judge Anna Escobar.

Michael brings a distinctive combination of legal training and firsthand industry experience, having spent nearly a decade working in Nashville's hospitality scene before pursuing his law degree. He understands the day-to-day challenges his clients face, from licensing and regulatory compliance to complex business operations and customer service needs. That real-world perspective, combined with a strong academic foundation and a diverse legal background, allows him to deliver informed, client-focused counsel that advances his clients' broader business objectives.

Michael earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from Belmont University College of Law, where he graduated as a Bruin Scholar on a full academic scholarship and earned a certificate in Entertainment and Music Business Law. During law school, he also received a CALI Award for Future Excellence, served as Chapter President of the American Constitution Society, and served on the Belmont Law Journal, where his Note, ‘Protect Ya Neck,’ which concerned governmental seizure of copyright interests, earned the "Note of Distinction" award as the top Note in his class. He also holds a Bachelor of Music in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music, where he graduated cum laude. When not practicing law, Michael enjoys playing and recording music.
