Overview

Randi Thompson represents a broad range of clients in construction and real estate – including owners, contractors, developers, subcontractors, public agencies, and more stakeholders in both industries. Randi serves as counselor and project counsel, defending clients in disputes involving breach of contract, delays, construction defects, structural failures, and payment issues. She also assists clients in drafting and reviewing contracts, change orders, and supporting documentation for construction projects of various magnitudes.

As a full-service construction attorney, Randi’s experience includes project management (demand letters, notices of noncompliance, notices of claim, etc.); drafting and reviewing contracts; lien law (claims of liens and affidavits of nonpayment); and full-service litigation (complaints, handling subpoena requests, preparing discovery requests and responses, conducting depositions, and a litany of motion practice, such as motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment). Randi also leads arbitrations, litigation proceedings, and mediations.

Randi also assists clients in government contracting, including termination procedures under the Federal Acquisition Regulation. She drafts requests for the contracting officer’s final decision and handles appeals with the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals, Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals, and Court of Federal Claims.

Randi is adept at researching and analyzing even the most complex issues in construction law, creatively advising clients on effective strategies, and vigorously advocating their positions in disputes in any forum. Randi’s objective is to attain the optimal outcome for each client. She anticipates clients’ needs and responds quickly and effectively to opposing counsel’s claims. With her keen ability to act proactively, communicate options clearly in the language of construction professionals, and find creative solutions by looking at details from every angle, Randi connects with clients in a way they truly appreciate.

Randi believes that her unique experience as a first-generation college graduate, and her past work for more than a decade as a restaurant server contributed to her service-oriented approach. It fine-tuned her ability as an attorney to anticipate needs, communicate effectively, handle demanding situations, overcome adversity, and collaborate with people from every background.

Throughout law school, Randi enhanced her legal knowledge and experience by serving as a student attorney in the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Business Clinic, working as a research assistant to Professor Amy Hess on updates to Bogert’s The Law of Trusts and Trustees, and was granted the role of teaching assistant for two professors, including a former dean.

Randi served as a congressional intern for U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, for whom she handled constituent relations, filed response letters, and drafted reports. She also served as an intern for Circuit Court Judge Beth Boniface of the Third Judicial District of Tennessee, where she reviewed and discussed judicial opinions and draft orders submitted to the court by litigants.

In the Atlanta community, Randi participates in various church-sponsored projects, and she serves as a volunteer court-appointed special advocate (CASA) for children in foster care.
