Overview
Todd Engelhardt is an experienced litigator and serves as the Partner in Charge of the Birmingham office. Todd has a varied practice which includes representation of employers in labor and employment matters, financial institutions on compliance and operational issues, public entities in election law matters, and general commercial contract and tort cases across various industries, including construction, manufacturing, distribution, sales, transportation, entertainment, and retail.
Todd has argued cases at the administrative, trial, and appellate levels, ranging from drafting position statements at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to authoring party briefs at the Supreme Court of the United States, with numerous hearings, trials, petitions, and appeals to his credit, and has handled all types of formal and informal alternate dispute resolutions. He routinely counsels entities on ways to avoid litigation through policies, procedures, and creative external strategies.
In the non-litigation context, Todd has served as corporate counsel for clients on both a regular and ad hoc basis. In that capacity he has represented water utilities, beer distributors, mobile home park owners, neighborhood associations, veterinary clinics, counties, and county agencies.
Todd is admitted to practice in both Alabama and Florida, and in numerous federal courts throughout the country. He spent the first seven years of his legal career based in Tallahassee while practicing throughout the state. Before attending law school, he spent 10 years working in different financial institutions in operational and management roles. He spearheaded the launching of debit card, EFT, and merchant programs at two large credit unions in North Florida after working his way up through the electronic commerce and consumer lending platforms. He was selected to represent multiple credit unions on a statewide fraud and forgery task force.
Todd received his J.D. magna cum laude from The Florida State University College of Law. He is an avid fan of the ’Noles and the Yankees, enjoys traveling with his wife, and returning home to his dogs.
