Gif Thornton Talks with Law.com on Nashville Office Expansion
Published: Apr 24, 2026
In his interview with Thomas Spigolon, Thornton explained that Adams & Reese has operated in the midtown Nashville office tower for three years and has outgrown its current footprint after adding strategic new hires across a variety of practice areas. He noted that priority laterals in intellectual property and construction litigation, as well as additions in white-collar defense and crisis management, have driven the need for more space.
Thornton emphasized that Nashville is a growing market, and the firm's strategic plan calls for continued firmwide growth in services such as intellectual property and government relations, while remaining "opportunistic" in recruiting attorneys in other practice areas as well.
Thornton framed the new lease positively, stating, "We've just grown so quickly in Nashville that we outgrew our space, which is a problem, but it's a good problem." He also highlighted the firm's in-office culture, noting that Adams & Reese expects its attorneys and staff to work in the office, which limits the ability to free up space through remote work arrangements. "We are very much a collaborative, community-based practice that assumes people are going to be in the office," Thornton said, and that "our people like working in the office and working together."
The Broadwest Tower expansion is part of a broader trend noted in the article, which also highlighted two other Southeast rooted regional law firms with office expansions in Los Angeles and Washington, DC. In each case, they expand their physical footprints to support ongoing growth.
