The Big City on the Beach

Commonly known by locals as "St. Pete,” and aptly given the nickname of "The Sunshine City," the city of St. Petersburg is often a frequent vacation destination. Count on plenty of sunshine and numerous beaches resting on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

St. Petersburg has become known and regarded as one of America's most livable cities. St. Petersburg and Tampa both anchor opposite sides of the Tampa Bay market with a combined population of about 3 million residents, making it the second most-populated metro area in Florida and the 19th largest in the U.S.

Noted for its arts community, St. Petersburg regularly places top 25 in the nation among arts destinations.

Captain Jack Sparrow Sightings

In 2005, Fort Desoto was rated the No. 1 beach in America by the annual Dr. Beach rankings. The St. Petersburg Pier is a popular tourist attraction, open to the public, retail shopping, adventure activities and casual and fine dining restaurants.

You might not see Johnny Depp, but the replica of the HMS Bounty used in Disney's “Pirates of the Caribbean” is frequently docked at the Pier.

Downtown St. Petersburg is the Central Business District – the downtown perimeter also houses several parks, most of which are waterfront or lakefront. Straub Park is nearly a half mile long, boasts a waterfront location, and is home of the Museum of Fine Arts. This area also contains Vinoy Park, which is known to hold music festivals, including the Vans Warped Tour. Most of the dining downtown can be found on Central Avenue.

Saint Petersburg boasts the largest dedicated public waterfront park system of any city in North America, with a waterfront park system that stretches seven miles.
